Hello, Hello! You’re reading this today because you’re a follower of my blog and you love to read my content!...Or you came here for the first time or completely by accident and don’t know what you’re reading. Either way, you’re here now and I’ve got something to share with you, so listen up!
You guys may or may not be aware of this, but I’m a bonafide Content Creator. Yup, you heard right. I make things! What kind of things you ask? Excellent question! The Answer? Lots of things!
Ok, that wasn’t a super clear answer. Let me break it down for you.
I’m a freelancer and these “things” that I do all have to do with the creative arts. Things like designing, editing, creating. You know, the arts. My passion is towards animation, specifically 3D animation. My aspiration is that one day I’ll be able to be a Game Animator.
Nothing gets me more excited than the thought of creating character animations for games one day. The thought alone, gives me the motivation to get up everyday and go to town on my computer to achieve this goal of mine.
But my interests don’t stop at animation. I kinda consider myself a jack of all trades. I have a few nifty skills under my belt that I’ve picked up over the years through my freelance and personal work. So, without further ado, let’s actually get into these “things” of mine.
Ahh, the old visual arts! I’ve been learning graphic design since my college days and I gotta say it’s a pretty neat artform. Over the years, I’ve used my graphic design skills to create promotional content in my contract work, book covers for well-established authors and I even use it to design my blog cover images along with my own logo and branding content. All the images you see on my site we’re created by yours truly!
This right here is the bread of butter of what I’m all about. 3D animation, one of the hardest and most rewarding things you can do! I’m constantly learning my way around the animation medium. When I’m not working, you can typically find me in front of my computer putting together a shot for my demo reel.
I know about the 12 principles of animation along with storyboarding and planning to make my scenes engaging and exciting! I’ve done some freelance work in animation, but ultimately I want to work in game animation as my full time profession. Until that time comes, however, I’m hard at work honing my craft and searching for opportunities to get my hands on some juicy animation work.
While it’s not 3D animation, motion graphics are still animation and therefore awesome! I’ve been working in motion graphics with Adobe After Effects for a few years now. I’ve created logo animations, video transitions, and have even done some 2D character animations as well.
From filming to editing, I know my way around a camera when it comes down to creating videos. Videography was a major job for me in my contract career at the Point Church. I would film weekly announcement videos, promotional content, and events hosted across the Triangle. I’ve also filmed housing developments and cooking videos for instagram on the side as part of my growing freelance biz!
Believe or not, I went to school to study game design! I know I passed up being a doctor, a banker, or any other high paying job to work in games for a living! What can I say, I love playing them so much so I thought why not go into them for a career?
It was in my studies of game design, that I realized I wanted to be a game animator. While I’m still constantly pursuing this goal, game design never left me. I’ll tell ya, nothing is more fulfilling than working on a passion project with a group of fun and creative people.
I’ve worked in programming and 3D modeling to create 3D interactive environments for games. I’ve even used these skills to help create a game called Get Cookin’ as part of my Senior project in college, which still holds a dear place in my heart. So, if there are any game studios in the area looking for talent, I’m right here and eagerly waiting for ya!
I’m hoping by now you realize that I blog as well or else you would be reading this right now. I started the Man Behind the Controller last summer because I felt like I had a lot of thoughts on issues and topics not typically talked about in the gaming and nerd community that I wanted to get out into the world.
Some of the topics I’ve talked about is Challenge in Games, Crunch Culture in the Game Industry, and I’ve even talked about my experience learning animation and what it's been like for me to work my way to my dream job.
It’s been an awesome experience writing this blog and taking these conversations further with people on social media and in person.
So that’s me. Dean the Animator, Graphic Designer, Videographer, Game Developer, and Blogger guy. I know it’s a bit of a mouthful, but you can just call me a Content Creator to make it easier.
If you or anybody you know has needs for a Content Creator such as myself don’t be afraid to Hit Me Up on my brand spanking new website and share this blog post with them. Until then, stay tuned for more blog updates and I’ll see you next time!
